Creativity and New Media

Creativity can be conveyed in many different ways. An example of one way is through makeup artistry. New media allows for creativity of makeup artistry to be taken to a different level. The iPhone application, Makeup Plus, allows for the user to use try on different lipstick brands and types without having the physical product with them. This allows for the user to be creative in their artistry skills, even if they are not necessarily a makeup artist. It allows them to try different things with one click of a button.

            On our class Wiki, I edited the “References” section in the Accounting in Social Media page. The links to the references for the article were incorrectly done. The links were copied and pasted under the “References” section. However, it should automatically appear in the section without pasting the text of the link to the sites when you type “<ref>https:// thewebsite <ref> in the body of the page right after the information from that site is written.             Another contribution that I made was adding a sub-section to the Fashion page. P2P

       File sharing can be described as the act of sending or receiving files or media from one computer to another through the internet or a network. File sharing can be done through P2P, or peer-to-peer file sharing programs or software. P2P allows users to access files uploaded by other users over the internet. Anyone with access to the software can download or view any files that any other users shared. Some examples of P2P file sharing software include Kazaa, LimeWire and Freenet. However, an issue occurred where most of these P2P sites were shut down. As Brian Stelter and Brad Stone explain in their New York Times article Digital Pirates Winning Battle With Studios , the reason these software were shut down is because, “People have swapped illegal copies of songs, television shows and movies on the Internet for years”. Advice

One thing that Baruch College is known for providing students is the college lifestyle. Being a commuter school to start with, it becomes difficult for students to engage with each other and become very social. Unless the students participate in clubs, there is not much opportunity for them to interact. One way this can be solved is by increasing the social media communication between the students at the college. Most students access their social media accounts, whether it’s Facebook or Twitter, a couple of times a day. Getting the students connected through social media will allow the students to have cultural exposure and will allow future connections.   Another suggestion I would make is to make the school website more user-friendly, and mobile friendly. There are many times when students want to access their schedule or easily email their professor, but it takes more time to access it on the phone than to find a computer and do it there.
